It’s not the Ryder Cup, and there’s no sense pretending it is. The Americans will go and have fun and win and all will be jolly, because they don’t really care. It’s not the Ryder Cup.
This American Presidents Cup group is a dream team unlike any trotted out there, even any past team that had a prime-time Tiger Woods on it. Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth … right there we could stop, but add in Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, Mickelson, Kuchar … This won’t be close, not like a Ryder Cup … which the Americans care about, probably too much.
It would have been nice to see Xander Schauffele on this American team, but his victory at the Tour Championship came too late to make a dent in the points standings. That’s OK — if he keeps playing at close to his Tour Championship level, there’s this other national team they’re putting together next year for which he’d have to be considered. It’s not the Presidents Cup.
