Somewhere during his journalism studies at Southern Cal and a career as sportswriter, sports editor and desk man, my friend Gordie’s worldview diverged from mine pretty severely to the point we can’t be friends on the Colossal Social Networking Platform (CNSP) because we can’t be civil about our politics.
I don’t get his, he won’t acknowledge mine. There. That’s pretty civil.
So now, in this curious space, apart from CNSP yet exploiting it however I can, I have two words for you, Gordie:
Isaiah and Evan. And a third: Ohmigod.
USC will beat Gonzaga tonight, and no, you didn’t read it here first, if you read it anywhere, but I need it to have any chance to win my remnant of a bracket against Johnny, with whom I will be renewing next Monday for like the 35th time the Tradition Like Few Others, i.e., dinner, drinks and championship game at his house with him and his latest wife.
We missed out last year. You might remember there was this thing. It took me all this basketball season to even notice the Mobley brothers, but I now rest my fragile self-esteem (and 10 dollars) on their elevated shoulders.
As for Gordie, it’s no stretch to expect, concerning Trojan basketball, that he’s formed an opinion. It’s what he does.
I’ve had my three words’ worth. It’s even possible, today, that we agree.
