If it’s a typo, and it sure seems like it, it’s been repeated in all the places they’re writing about the Women’s U.S. Open. Placed a call to the crack Grey Goatee Research Cult: It’s not a typo. Jeongeun Lee might not be the only Jeongeun Lee in the field, but after an opening-round 67, she’s the only one on top of the leaderboard like this: Lee6.
The research freaks’ uncharacteristically prompt turnaround might or might not mean somebody down there just looked it up in Golfworld, which said there’s a number after the 21-year-old’s name because’s she’s the last of six Jeongeun Lees on the Korean LPGA tour.
The other Lee, who actually writes her name Jeong Eun Lee, is No. 5 in the KLPGA … and tied for 96th after a Thursday 76, four over par in Shoal Creek, Ala.
