Tiger Woods is in the field this week at the Genesis Open … wait, let me double-check that. “Dude, he’s not playing,” and this time the bureau chief couldn’t be bothered even to raise an eyebrow. It was some underling, an up-and-comer, clearly, who gave me the goods … good thing I don’t pay these people.
Woods’s back is all spasm-y, so he’s out at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades for the tournament they used to call the Los Angeles Open and more recently the Northern Trust Open. He won’t be missed (eight of the world’s top 10 are here), so why are we even talking about it?
Rich Berberian Jr. is in the field, one of the cluster of tournaments he gets to play this season because of his victory last year in the PGA Professionals Championship. Nice guy, good player, adopted son of Grey Goatee Nation, only the latter of which should be any kind of handicap at Riviera.
