The best players in women’s golf, which maybe almost not quite passes the straight-face test, are in Scotland this weekend for a little exhibition called the Solheim Cup.
The best players in men’s golf, which I couldn’t say with a straight face if it was paralyzed, flat turned to plaster, are in Tumwater USA Saturday for the glorious last gasp of the global golf season. We call it El Finale Grande, we of the Grey Goatee Golf Association, and gosh we try hard, and that is its own reward, that and the lovely participation trophies The Commissar hands out.
It’s all in quest of The Cardigan, the most esteemed green garment in the game of golf. Yes, I said that with a straight face, and without the smallest fear of contradiction.
