I don’t ask to make you feel bad or stupid, but my question is this: Who won the Shell Houston Open last year? Even the crack Grey Goatee Research Goons were initially stuck for an answer, but they came ’round to it: It was Jim Herman. The hell you say.
Herman, a 39-year-old Ohioan, took a one-shot win in Houston over Henrik Stenson, the big Swede out of Sweden. Herman’s first and only PGA Tour title earned an invitation to the Masters the next week, where he didn’t win, shooting 75-78 and missing the cut, but he shouldn’t feel bad: the research thugs tell me only two players since 1960 (Phil Mickelson, Sandy Lyle) have won the Masters after winning the week before.
