Bent Shaft postscript: Evening, April 15
LACEY, Wash. – The 12th annual Bent Shaft Classic today officially launched the 2017 worldwide golf season. Imagine our astonishment: The Commissar his own self played his worst golf at all the right times, and the numbers, ladies and gentlemans, don’t lie.
He therefore topped the field of 20 at Capitol City Golf Club to earn the right to place the Bent Shaft Classic trophy on his mantel, or someplace out of anyone’s actual line of sight, or wherever his wife lets him put it if he even gets it in the door.
We greying goats of the Association look good on paper. We have all the metrics. Our SAR (strokes above replacement) are all high, or low, whichever is better, nobody quite knows. Our CRS is off the charts … we think the letters stand for Crown Royal Shots, and whether that’s true or not, we act on our beliefs.
We’re out there, in all our splendor, like peacocks about to be rebuffed at the door of the henhouse.
And our trophy, such as it is, is back in play.
